How ubiquitous are managed detection and response (MDR) security services? The answer: Even printer companies are jumping into the market.

The evidence: Canon Solutions America, the MSP and IT consulting subsidiary of Canon U.S.A, has launched Managed Detection and Response as a Service (MDRaaS). The service provides 24/7/365 monitoring of systems, devices, and user activity within an organization. The MDRaaS is designed to safeguard to “organizations of all sizes, in all types of industries,” Canon Solutions asserted.

Dig a little deeper, and you’ll notice that Agile Cybersecurity Solutions (ACS) is delivering the MDRaaS capabilities. ACS has two locations in the Metro Washington, D.C. area and Europe. The organization protects more than 40,000 endpoints worldwide.

Companies of all sizes and backgrounds are jumping into the MDR market. The stampede includes cybersecurity software companies, MSPs, pure-play MSSPs, IT consulting firms, cloud platform providers, and strategic investors, among others.

Market demand is driving the MDR stampede. Indeed, MDR revenues are expected to reach $1.9 billion by 2024, which represents a 16.4 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR), according to industry analyst Frost & Sullivan.

Canon, ACS and Five Pillars of Security

Meanwhile, Canon and ACS are working together on multiple fronts. For example, Canon also offers Virtual Chief Information Security Officer CISO (vCISO) Services by ACS. The vCISO program provides customers a 12-month annual subscription that includes a “variety of discretionary cybersecurity services,” Canon said.

The MDR and vCISO services align with Canon’s Five Pillars of Security strategy — which involves:

  1. Device Security
  2. Print Security
  3. Document Security
  4. Information Security
  5. Cybersecurity
