Mac OS X is by its nature a very secure operating system however with Apple’s growing popularity it is a target for cyber criminals. An example is the ‘KeRanger’ ransomware which hit OS X users in 2016. ‘KeRanger’ was distributed with the legitimate software Transmission torrent. This threat has now been addressed with OS X updates (via File Quarantine XProtect) and an updated Transmission torrent.
Malware that has hit OS X this year includes MacDownloader (Febuary 2017) and the OSX/Dok Trojan Horse (April 2017).
