Hackers are feared to have stolen personal data from millions of British customers of companies, including BT and British Gas, in a cyber attack on US credit rating firm Equifax.
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) said it is investigating and has urged Equifax to contact affected UK customers as soon as possible.
Equifax has not stated how many UK consumers were affected by the breach.
